“The archive is our bodies.”
– New York Times
Created by choreographer Katja Heitmann, Motus Mori Institute is an attempt to archive human movement before it disappears. Propulsed by the desire to find what connects us, we are embarking on a long-term process to collect, preserve and share this most elusive part of our humanity.
This is an archive for everybody, everywhere, to investigate the body as a repository of memories and emotions. What moves you?
“The more I observed you, the more I felt this deep, bone-deep need for my body to move as well. You created a magnificent, hypnotic sort of trance that wasn’t excluding, but inviting. I immediately felt part of a big, collective kinetic energy.”
- Magda, Lublin
“It was so touching and it felt very soft and caring to see myself and my family in this way, leaving me very silent and with a feeling of being seen.”
- Jesse, Tilburg
"Thank you for offering a space for remembrance. I am reminded deeply of how physicality makes it possible to connect."
- Emily, Düsseldorf
“I gave my intimacy to one of the dancers and it was in very good hands. It feels special that I was able to contribute to this beautiful performance.”
- Willem, Maastricht
“Never before had I thought so intently about the physical connection with my mother.”
- Ingrid, Den Bosch
“The performance made me, in a good and happy way, enormously melancholic.”
- Jan, Arnhem
