The movement-heritage of a city

What is the movement of a city? Would it be possible to preserve it like cultural heritage? Can we exhibit the movement of a cities’ inhabitants in a museum?

Since 2018 choreographer Katja Heitmann is working on her project Motus Mori. With her team of dancers she develops methods to collect and preserve human movement. With the collected movements she creates exhibitions and durational performances.

In 2020 and 2021 Katja and her team would like to research the movement-heritage of several European cities. In movement-interviews with the city’s inhabitants Katja’s dancers collect movement, gesture and motoric specifics. With this material Katja creates impressive durational performances or movement-exhibitions we return these movements to the city-inhabitants to look at and experience.

In 2019 we started to archive Maastricht and Eindhoven (NL). We are archiving multiple cities in 2020 and 2021. Offcourse our hometown Tilburg, but also Düsseldorf (DE), Brugge (BE), Utrecht (NL).

If you want your city to become part of the Motus Mori archive, let us know!
